Aperitivo in front of Santa Maria del Fiore

It was 6pm on our first day in Firenze. We had gotten up very early and left the JFRC to catch our bus that would take us to Firenze. We had to walk a lot and by 6pm, standing next to the majestic Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore, we were ready to relax a little.

Alejandra and I found a wonderful little trattoria that was serving the traditional Italian aperitivo. For those of you who are not familiar with aperitivo, it usually consists of ordering a drink and then you get free food, usually buffet style.

In this instance, we both ordered a glass of wine and enjoyed some little sandwiches. The sun was setting and we could hear a man playing Con Te Partirò by Andrea Bocelli on his flute. Even though many people were walking by, there was a predominant sense of peace that lingered in the air.
